Modified Shalako on eBay0 Comment

Well the this auction just ended with the reserve not being met. Last bid was $3045. Honestly not very much info on the listing. Just that it is rare (of course), That it is on a 72 vdub chassis and has a corvair drivetrain. It needs paint, interior finished, etc. This will be a great looking car when done. I wonder what the reserve was? Any readers have any info on the car?

Hey Everyone,

You may have seen this car while browsing price of his toys and if you ever seen it and said “Man I have to have one” now is your chance. They did not make a bunch and they do not come up for sale all that often, so if you are considering it don’t think anymore and just hit the buy it now button

Check it out. For all of you Shalako fans out there, an eBay member currently has one listed. There is just a little over a day left and the reserve has not been met. I am guessing the sellers wants a lot more than what it is worth, but it does not hurt to bid. Steve just sent us a few photos of his Shalako. His car was purchased through a post on price of his toys. I love the car and wish I owned it..haha.

Thanks for sharing these great photos with us.

And I tried responding to your email and it came back undeliverable on two occasions.

Shalako heads to a new home0 Comment

Sorry I haven’t posted much in the last days — I promise I have not forgotten this blog!

Steve picked up the Shalako a couple entries down from this one, and it’s now headed off to its new home. I can’t wait to see how this amazing little car turns out. Steve says he’s wanted one for a long time, and in one of those interesting coincidences that happen oh-so-often, it seems that this one was worked on by a friend of his way back in the seventies…

Dick Dean Shalako For Sale4 Comment

For Sale, Shalako | Sat, 20 Sep 2008 Posted by :

In the sixties legendary hot rod builder Dick Dean released a buggy/kit car called the “Shalako”, which predates analogous sports-car/buggy hybrids like the Manx SR. Although the vehicle was popular and well known, and MPC built a 1/20 scale model, as well as various magazine coverage, I do not believe that the production numbers are as high as the previously linked article suggests — I think it’s more likely that less than 25 exist. See also this forum thread for a little more info and pictures.

Cliff (cliff_****@***.net – SOLD!) in Miami has his up for sale for an asking price of only $2,000, which I think is a great deal (I’ve told him I think it’s worth double that, so don’t get mad if he ups the price)… This is in far better shape than nearly every other Shalako out there, and would be an amazing start for someone who wants to restore this amazing find.
